New Left icon Tom Hayden, one of America’s leading progressive activists and thinkers, was Thorne Dreyer’s guest on Rag Radio for two one-hour discussions about the legacy of the Sixties era, and about contemporary American society, foreign policy, and progressive politics. This post includes highlights from the discussion and embedded players for listening to podcasts of the two shows. According to The Atlantic’s Nicholas Lemann, “Tom Hayden changed America.” Hayden was a driving force in SDS, and the civil rights and anti-Vietnam War movement, and was the primary author of the legendary and inspirational Port Huron Statement, which is now being celebrated on the occasion of its 50th anniversary.
