I think the cartoon is a good one and it is good to poke fun, but at the same time the degree to which Americans have come to accept totally unacceptable behavior on the part of our government over the past decade is really scary. From torture to shoe removal and body scanners at airports, we slowly but surely have let the repressive forces of the government do more and more…so that I increasingly feel that for the first time I understand how Germans ended up accepting — or at least, not feeling they could resist –the horrendous atrocities of the Hitler period. That really frightens me.
